CAST Imagine Redefines the Middle School Experience

San Antonio ISD and CAST Schools launch

CAST Imagine Middle School

March 6, 2024 – San Antonio ISD, in partnership with CAST Schools, announced the launch of CAST Imagine Middle School at a community celebration at CAST Med High School March 6. Opening its doors in August 2024, CAST Imagine will be co-located at CAST Med High School and will welcome rising 6th and 8th-grade students for the 2024-2025 school year and grades 6, 7, and 8 for the 2025-2026 school year.

In January, as a result of the district’s rightsizing recommendations, the San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees amended the CAST School’s partner agreement to offer a middle school co-located with CAST Med High School.

“We are committed to providing a range of educational opportunities for our students,” said SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino. “As we deepen our partnership with CAST Schools, we aim to bring back middle school students who have elected choices outside of the district.”

CAST Schools convened a design team (composed of community leaders, industry experts, higher education representatives, K-12 educators, and civic leaders) who offered valuable feedback on the school’s overview, mission, vision, and goals and contributed to the naming protocol. Participants reviewed community data, identified key challenges faced by students entering high school, and ideated opportunities to enhance the middle school experience. CAST Schools also hosted focus groups with middle school students and families and continues to seek feedback through a community survey.

“A core value of CAST Schools is that we ask the students, and our partners, to co-create with us,” said Jeanne Russell, CAST Schools Executive Director.

As a result of community input, the middle school aims to provide students with experiences to discover their passions, identify their strengths, and explore multiple college and career opportunities, preparing them for high school.

The current CAST Med principal, Dr. Anthony Khosravi, will also lead the middle school. CAST Imagine Middle School will provide hands-on, project-based, and experiential approach to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

“This approach aims to provide students with a comprehensive and engaging learning experience, connecting them to high-demand STEM fields and preparing them for future success,” said Khosravi.

The school is currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Interested families can contact the school at (210) 228–3380 to learn more or visit Apply to CAST Imagine for more details.
