About CAST:

The Centers for Applied Science and Technology is a 501(c)3 network of public-partnership schools working with San Antonio area independent school districts. The CAST mission is to reinvent schooling to maximize options for students, while preparing them for the jobs of the future. CAST has 6 schools in four school districts; the nonprofit is governed by a board representing industry and civic leaders.

Position Summary

CAST Schools has partnered with the Texas Workforce Department of Apprenticeships to offer a comprehensive apprenticeship program aimed at preparing this individual for a successful career in project management.

As a Project Management Apprentice, you will work closely with an experienced mentor to gain practical skills and knowledge in project management methodologies, tools, and techniques. This apprenticeship program provides a unique opportunity to learn essential project coordination skills while contributing to real-world projects in the nonprofit sector.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current CAST Senior or CAST Alumni interested in Willing to collaborate with industry and community partners
  • Willing to collaborate with industry and community partners
  • Must pass criminal background check

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in project management
  • An interest in pursuing a project management certification
  • Be an enrolled or eligible participant in the Texas Ready to work program
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in the development of project plans, including scope, event budgets, and annual event schedule for signature CAST events
  • Coordinate tasks and activities across project teams, tracking progress and dependencies to ensure timely completion.
  • Monitor project progress and help identify potential risks to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to prepare event reports, work-based learning reports, and communicate updates for the CAST newsletter.
  • Participate in project briefings and provide input for process improvement.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate new programs.
  • Work with CAST Alumni advisory board to schedule meetings, create meeting agendas, and coordinate alumni events.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, status reports, meeting minutes, and action items.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations on project progress and results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
