CAST Tech Students Awarded Stipends for Success in Quantum Computing

On Thursday, CAST Tech students Isabella, Joseph and Alejandro were presented stipends from the SAISD Foundation in partnership with MIMS Institute Fellows Inc. for completion of Semester 1 of The Coding School’s Introduction to Quantum Computing class.

Over the course of several weeks, the students completed rigorous quantum computing coursework on top of their current high school workload, but by the end of completion they were awarded $500 each in recognition of their hard work and perseverance. The goal of the computing course was to increase awareness in urban ZIP codes that “the Future is Quantum.” by connecting students to the The Coding School and the Qubit by Qubit “Introduction to Quantum Computing” course led by PhD candidates from Stanford University.

The stipends were presented by Judy Geelhoed, the executive director of the SAISD Foundation, and Jason Mims, the founder and president of MIMS Institute Fellows Inc. The SAISD Foundation aims to expand student experiences both inside and outside of the classroom for students across all schools in San Antonio ISD. Together with the talented educators on their campuses and the curriculum teams in the central office, they invest in new opportunities and resources focused in STEM, arts and literacy. The MIMS Institute Foundation Inc. is a non-profit public charity, founded in 2011 to promote Academic Excellence in urban zip codes. Since 2011, they have shared their Kindness gifts from Eastside San Antonio with the message, “Kindness Matters.”

Upon receiving their stipends, Isabella, Joseph and Alejandro expressed their future plans to apply to universities such as NYU, UT Austin and UTSA, and to pursue video game development and other computer science careers thanks to this course and their experience at CAST Tech.
