CAST Tech E-Sports Team Wins 2024 R20 Tournament

You may remember my story with CAST Tech’s E-Sports team several months ago, where I highlighted their accomplishments as they prepared for their upcoming R20 tournament. This past Sunday, not only was CAST Tech able to compete at the tournament, they also took home first place in glorious fashion.

While catching up with the students, I could tell they seemed relieved to have R20 out of the way now that they could focus on a rematch against Hebron High School at the E6 tournament. Team leader Jonah told me about how their improved strategies helped get them over the edge.

The tournament itself consisted of 6 teams across five schools: South San, TMI, Clark, Holmes, and finally CAST Tech with two teams (A-Team and B-Team). CAST Tech’s A-Team had such a good record that they were able to skip the first round entirely, and so they were matched up against Clark High School after they defeated Holmes. Cast Tech A was off to a slow start, but once they found their groove they made quick work of the competition.

On the other side of the tournament, TMI had the second-best record so they also were able to skip the first round. CAST Tech B-Team went up against South San, and after beating them they were set to face off against TMI. However, while CAST Tech B prepared for their match, TMI was eavesdropping on CAST Tech’s coaching to get an unfair advantage. TMI defeated CAST Tech B-Team, but CAST Tech A-Team swore revenge.

In the final round of the tournament we saw CAST Tech A-Team going head-to-head with TMI. Although TMI was able to best CAST Tech B-Team, they severely underestimated CAST Tech A-Team, who won the tournament in decisive manner. CAST Tech A-Team beat TMI 13-4, with the score at one point reaching 10-1. With the R20 tournament now over with, CAST Tech has its eyes set for the E6 tournament, where they may see a possible rematch against Hebron High School, who beat them last year.
