Dear Families:
This letter is to inform you of an element in SAISD’s negotiations around the proposed downtown baseball stadium that involves ALA-Euclid. All elements of the staff recommendation will be publicly available later today, so that the community has time to review and ask their board member questions prior to a vote. However, we want to update you first on the specific element that pertains to your child’s campus, so you are fully aware before the general public.
How it involves ALA-Euclid
One of the elements of the staff recommendation is to propose that the Missions and County fund a new PreK-5 campus for ALA. The Missions expressed general interest in supporting SAISD’s academic programming, but their desire to use this specific SAISD property interferes with a plan under consideration to build a PreK-5 campus for ALA-Euclid at that site.
This proposal element in the staff recommendation aims to ensure that there is a long-term plan for the ALA-Euclid campus given persistent challenges with the current facility. If this proposal were to be accepted, the district would expect a 2- to 3-year timeframe for construction, during which time students would remain at Euclid.
Please understand that this is only a proposed recommendation at this point. If the new building is not part of the final outcome, the district will still invest in necessary upgrades for the current building to ensure the best possible learning environment.
SAISD’s full proposal
In addition to this letter, please also look for another communication this afternoon that shares all the elements in the district’s proposal.
Nov. 18 board meeting
It is important to note that a public discussion among the SAISD Board of Trustees around the staff recommendation as it relates to the district-owned property sought by the Missions is an agenda item on the Monday, Nov. 18 board agenda. The community is welcome to attend the meeting, and if desired, to sign up in-person prior to the meeting to share their thoughts and concerns during the Citizens to Be Heard portion of the agenda. The board anticipates voting on the staff recommendation at the Monday meeting, following Citizens to Be Heard and their discussion agenda item.
Nov. 20 community meeting for ALA families
Additionally, the district will hold a community meeting at ALA-Euclid on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for ALA families from both the Euclid and Tech campuses.
Again, this is only proposed recommendation, and the outcome is still to be determined. However, we are committed to preserving the quality and accessibility of our programs, regardless of the building decision.
As always, we embrace community engagement and transparency, and we look forward to your participation in matters related to your school and the district. Thank you for being part of the SAISD familia.
In service,
Jaime Aquino
Superintendent
