Meet CAST’s Summer 2024 Interns!

As part of CAST’s commitment to Student Voice and Agency, each year CAST employs students for summer internships within the CAST Network. This year is no exception, and CAST is excited to welcome these new interns to the Network family!

 

Kay Cansino is CAST’s Alumni Engagement Intern this summer. A CAST alumni, Kay graduated from Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) in 2022. She currently attends Trinity University where she majors in Sociology and minors in Education. She is a junior in college and is expected to graduate in 2026. Active on her campus, Kay is the president of the Latino Association. Her hobbies also include making bracelets as well as spending time with her cat, Sal. In addition, her favorite movie is Shrek.

 

Tim Huff is CAST’s Student and Educator Programs Intern this summer. A CAST alumni himself as well, he graduated from Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) in 2022. He currently attends Northwestern University where he is double majoring in Social Policy and Economics. Tim loves to stay active and has multiple hobbies. They include playing basketball, running, and fishing. When he’s not out in nature, he enjoys watching animated bird movies. His favorite is Surfs Up.

 

Joel Rosales is CAST’s Video Storytelling Intern for the summer. An SAISD alumni, he graduated from G.W. Brackenridge High School in 2021. A year later in 2022, he graduated with his Associates of Arts from Northwest Vista College. He currently attends Our Lady of the Lake University where he majors in Mass Communications with a focus in Digital Film Production and minors in Public Relations. He is expected to graduate with his BA this December 2024. Joel enjoys working out and running. In addition, his favorite movie is the 2021 live adaptation of Disney’s Cruella.

 

Robert Gonzales is CAST’s Industry Partnership Intern this summer. He currently attends CAST Tech and is a rising senior. He is expected to graduate in 2025. After graduating, Robert hopes to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to major in Cyber Security. Robert’s hobbies include playing golf, making music, and playing the guitar.

 

Finally, Leona Fletcher is CAST’s Youth Voice Intern for this summer. Leo is a rising senior attending CAST Lead High School, and will be working closely with CAST Board Member Shari Becker Albright. Leo will be collecting data from CAST students/alumni in order to better implement student voice and agency throughout the CAST schools. In her free time, Leo enjoys singing, dancing and drawing. She is passionate for music, and loves telling people about her vast music taste. She also enjoys fashion and trying on different outfits. Leona enjoys learning new hobbies to see what she enjoys the most. After her internship ends, Leona looks to leave her mark on her school and pursue Business and Digital Art in college.
