JOB DESCRIPTION

CAST Teach High School is committed to inspiring San Antonio students to pursue careers in education through a culture of transformative and authentic learning. Our mission includes a commitment to centering the voices of students and teachers, as they work collaboratively to co-create their learning experiences. The Family & Consumer Science Teacher at CAST Teach shall, under the direction of the Principal, provide students with innovative learning activities and work-based experiences in the field of education to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. In addition, the Teacher will enable students to develop competencies and skills to competitively pursue careers in education, through innovation, reflective practice and project based learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Only those persons who meet the minimum qualifications as posted should apply)

  • Bachelor’s Degree from Accredited University
  • Family and Consumer Sciences, Composite or Home Economics Certification preferred; may also consider Hospitality, Nutrition & Food Sciences or Human Development and Family Studies OR are currently enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program (ACP) and can demonstrate competency in the subject area(s)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s)
  • Substantial knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and maintain a positive classroom culture
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment. Non-refundable fee paid by applicant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Promote College/Career Readiness for all students.
  2. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program.
  3. Prepare lessons that reflect differentiated instruction for student success.
  4. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies and administrative regulations.
  5. Work cooperatively and actively seek out feedback from students, parents, administrators, team leaders, department coordinators, content specialists and other staff as needed to meet curriculum objectives.
  6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  7. Help students analyze data and improve teaching and learning skills and study habits.
  8. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessment practices.
  9. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  11. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials, as well as the design of the curriculum.
  12. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers.
  13. Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
  14. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  15. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  16. Engage in summer curriculum writing and professional development, with supplemental pay (12 days).
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Maintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work on time every day are essential functions of the job. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule

MINIMUM WORK DAYS: 187

TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT: Full-Time, Exempt
