On Thursday, SAISD celebrated its educators with its annual “Teacher of the Year” award ceremony. Friends, family and peers of teachers who had been nominated for the award gathered to cheer on their fellow educators. Among those nominated this year was CAST Tech’s Lisa Jones, who, earlier this year, was named CAST Tech’s 2023-24 Teacher of the Year.
As friends and family gathered in the Alamo Convocation Center, families from across the district rallied in support of their teachers with custom signs, banners, cowbells, and pom-poms. After opening remarks from SAISD Superintendent Jaime Aquino, it was time to present awards to the district’s brightest stars.
The award ceremony recognized teachers who had gone above and beyond for their students throughout the school year, as the “Teacher of the Year” distinction was divided into elementary, middle, and high school. Before each award was presented, the winning teacher was introduced anonymously by one of their former who students, who would tell the audience what each teacher meant to them.
When it was time to announce the high school winner, Mrs. Jones immediately recognized the voice of her anonymous past student, and shortly after she was named SAISD’s 2023-24 High School Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Jones’ dedication to her students is unmatched, and the CAST Network is incredibly proud of her accomplishment. Congratulations, Mrs. Jones!
