At CAST Schools, one of our four core pillars is Student Voice and Agency. Students act as co-creators and co-problem solvers at the school and beyond, offering ideas, posing new questions and authentically engaging in their education. Student-led learning promotes collaboration, development of leadership skills and the development of self-management, goal setting, self-advocacy, and student agency. With the Student Advisory, they are able to take this a step further and apply their voice in real-world scenarios, both foreign and domestic.
So for the second year, CAST Schools will take its Student Advisory for a trip to Mexico City from November 28 through December 2 of 2023. The purpose of this educational trip is to provide students with an experience that exposes them to what many have referred to as their “home away from home” or Mexico City. This trip gives students an opportunity to explore and immerse themselves in Mexican culture & history; to learn about a diverse range of issues in U.S. – Mexico policy such as: politics and government, economics and trade, industry, education, and more; to develop leadership skills that will benefit both the individual student and the wider world.
The U.S.-Mexico 360 public diplomacy initiative provides the opportunity for groups from federal, state, and local governments: business; think tanks, and other research institutions; advocacy organizations; and NGOs to meet counterparts on a professional study tour in Mexico City. CAST high schools were the first to have joined in this collaboration which has allowed them this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and has strengthened our partnership with the US Mexico Foundation.
Upon conclusion of the event, CAST Schools Network hopes to present a summary to San Antonio City Council regarding strategic planning, community engagement, etc. To donate to the trip or sponsor a student, click the button below:
