CAST STEM Interns Deliver End-of-Summer Presentations at Toyota

Date

This summer, CAST STEM students have been interning with Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX). TMMTX is a subsidiary of Toyota Motor North America, itself a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan. The TMMTX assembly lines currently produce the Tundra full-size pickup truck and the Sequoia full-size sport utility vehicle. From June through August, student interns from CAST STEM were given a hands-on experience in manufacturing Toyota vehicles deep within San Antonio.

This summation of these internships was on Friday, when, in groups of 2-3, students presented their projects and ideas to further optimize the manufacturing process at TMMTX. From improving painting processes to more efficient uses of personal protective equipment (PPE), no two final presentations were the same. When the final group had finished presenting, their audience, made up almost entirely of TMMTX managers and manufacturers/engineers, had questions ready to test the interns.

CAST STEM is incredibly grateful for the continued collaboration with TMMTX in implementing its students in internship roles within the organization. These industry partnerships give CAST students an opportunity to not only learn valuable new skills, but also discover hidden passions for potential careers in the future.

About CAST STEM High School

CAST STEM High School is San Antonio’s #1 engineering school on the south side. The public high school, created in partnership with Southwest ISD, CAST Schools, and Palo Alto College, serves approximately 200 9th through 12th-grade students from across the greater San Antonio region and emphasizes preparing students for high-demand, high-wage jobs in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and global logistics. Co-located at Palo Alto College, CAST STEM integrates both college and career readiness while allowing students to pursue customized opportunities based on their interests.

About TMMTX

A new truck rolls off the line every 60 seconds at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX). This efficiency and speed are a result of hard work and dedication from “Team Texas” — comprised of 3,800+ employees who assemble Tundras and Sequoias, as well as the more than 20 on-site suppliers that employ an additional 5,600 people. TMMTX broke ground in San Antonio in 2003 and began operations in 2006. The automaker purchased 2,678 acres of ranchland, with a legacy dating back to 1794. To establish greenspace along Leon Creek and the Medina River, which borders the property on two sides, Toyota donated 678 acres of land to the city.
