On Friday, CAST Lead students took a trip to Austin to visit H-E-B Digital, H-E-B’s recent shift to online marketplaces. The purpose of the trip was to provide CAST Lead students with an idea of the different opportunities they could explore thanks to their current skills and coursework. The trip was orchestrated by CAST Board Member and H-E-B Program Manager Katie Chain, who champions student voice and opportunity. H-E-B Digital may be new, but their message and impact is not:
We create digital products for the millions of households that shop at H-E-B, but also for the 120,000+ employees who serve those households alongside us, from the teenager working their first job to the classically trained chef.
CAST Lead aims to inspire its students with trips like these to help showcase the different pathways that LEAD-ers can take once they graduate from CAST Lead. Whether it be from hospitality to retail or even management, CAST Lead is determined to give its students ample opportunities to learn and grow in and outside of the traditional classroom.
About CAST Lead

About H-E-B Digital
H-E-B Digital sits in a truly unique space in the market – they’re a technology organization within a century-old, cash-positive, privately-held company – the 12th largest privately-held company in the country. Not a moonshot or an innovation lab, they’re a fully-funded and fully-integrated digital part of an omni-channel business. Their mission is to make the lives of everyday people better, not to make money for investors or Wall Street. Their drive to beat the competition stems from a desire to keep their neighbors employed, not to inflate our valuation. Their executive outings focus on community engagement, not far-flung retreats.
