Art As A Revolutionary Act – Session 3

Art as a Revolutionary Act

Next session will be Tuesday, July 21st 3:00-4:30PM!

Join SAY Sí ABC Instructors, Chabriely Rivera and Cassidy Fritts, in our third session of Art as a Revolutionary Act where we’ll be diving deeper into talking about how art can be a vehicle for personal expression and revolutionary change. In our first session we were introduced to the medium of Spoken Word and challenged ourselves to try our hands at writing and using our own voices to discuss matters we’re passionate about. In our second session, we shared our writing endeavors and spoke about our passions regarding culture, relationships and our views on society. We talked more about Wearable Art and how something like fashion or even just a t-shirt you make yourself can be a powerful statement to the world around us. We left this session sketching and planning out what our shirts will look like. In our third session we will share our sketches for our wearable art project. We will also be exploring different methods of decorating and manipulating our shirts and masks, like creating your own stencils, using natural dyes and more. Taking a step towards sustainability we are using shirts that are already available to us and that are ready to be repurposed. In this session we will revisit Spoken Word and face masks, going over what makes our voices powerful instruments and how we can protect ourselves and others creatively. We will be talking about how to make a finished piece and what that is composed of and how to share the art we made together with the world.

These sessions will discuss how art plays a role in revolutionary moments of history, talk more about what is happening in our communities, and create some art of our own to express our beliefs and infuse our voices into our creations.

Sessions will focus on Spoken Word, wearable art (fashion, t-shirts, & more), and decorating a face mask.
