On Wednesday, CAST Med High School participated in a ‘Mass Casualty Exercise’ hosted by the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council at Boeing Tech Port. The exercise pulls in students and volunteers from across the city to help prepare hospitals for mass casualty events. The exercise helps hospitals improve performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and further enhance knowledge of plans.
CAST Med students, led by Dr. Jeannette Jacobs, spent their morning dressed up in makeup, acting as victims of a mass casualty event. The severity of the students’ injuries would range, and first responders would have to react accordingly. This brought a level of realism to the exercise that will help prepare healthcare professionals in the future. Located in Brooks, CAST Med is a public school serving 9th – 12th-grade students in partnership with San Antonio ISD and CAST Schools.
