At CAST, we strive to give our students ample opportunities within the workforce through our various industry partners. Over the past several months, Lancer Worldwide, a manufacturing facility with a location in San Antonio, has partnered with CAST STEM High School in providing unique experiences and potential career opportunities. A few weeks ago, Lancer announced that it would be hiring several CAST STEM students upon graduation, a great step in
Lancer approached the CAST Network after attending a job fair at Palo Alto College. They were so impressed with a handful of CAST STEM’s students that they wanted to meet more of them. About 20 seniors toured their factory about a month later, and the impact was mutually felt. CAST STEM’s students were intrigued by Lancer, and they showed genuine interest in their mission. When the conversation of internships came up, more openings than were originally discussed were offered to the students at CAST STEM up. In fact, Lancer created a role outside of manufacturing for one of CAST STEM’s seniors, Esther, who was offered a position in marketing.
Tim Bishop, CAST STEM’s Partnership and Workforce Development Coordinator, is optimistic regarding this opportunity:
We’re hoping this partnership grows through interactions and growth in interest of our younger grades. The middle school adventure camp had its ending at Lancer where we discussed how companies engage in sustainability. They are going to be internal in showing students how the little things matter. Lancer’s attention to the details and the impact of design will guide students into thinking about the projects they create. Their innovation to a machine we use everyday and might take for granted will help our students see all of the spaces they can get involved in to help innovate too.
The Lancer team prides itself on quality, innovation, and simplicity in order to help others’—customers, employees, and now CAST students—experiences transcend the norm.
