New school will welcome students next fall
SAN ANTONIO – The Centers for Applied Science and Technology announced Tuesday it will be opening its second campus next fall.
The school will focus on advanced manufacturing, engineering, energy and power as well as global logistics.
CAST STEM is expected to open next fall to 200 ninth-graders.
College coursework will be embedded within the high school program with the help of Palo Alto College and Texas A&M University – San Antonio.
The first two years of the program will be located at the new campus of Southwest Legacy High School.
In the third year, students will move to a facility at PAC.
“We are moving away from average, from being a normal public school. We want to be a school of choice, SWISD Superintendent Lloyd Yerstuyft said. “We want to be a school of engagement. We want to be a school that serves our students and our parents and prepares our students for life beyond high school, life beyond college.”
The schools focus on real world experience and projects.
The first school, CAST Tech, opened this year at the Fox Tech campus. It focuses on technology and entrepreneurship.
A third CAST high school is in the planning stages and will focus on medical professions and bioseciences.
