No. If there are less applications than seats available, no lottery is conducted and all students are accepted. If there are more applications than available seats, a lottery is conducted, offers are made for the number of seats available and the remaining students are waitlisted.
The Lottery Process– This is a blind, computerized process conducted at the district level. At ALA, we have a lottery for PreK 4 (66 seats), 6th grade (24 seats), and 9th (20 seats). Below is the distribution of the seats for each lottery.
Siblings have priority in grades that have a lottery. At ALA, lottery grades are PK4, 6th, and 9th grade. The number of seats for siblings cannot exceed 25% of the available seats. Out of our available 120 PreK, 6th, and 9th grade seats, siblings could take 30. Siblings not admitted through the sibling lottery are placed in the general lottery.
If you would like to be considered for sibling priority, an application must be completed online, the currently enrolled sibling information must be stated on the application and continue enrollment at ALA for the 2021-2022 school year.
Siblings only have priority during lottery years. The names of siblings who apply to any other grade level will be added to the waitlist.
If your son or daughter does not get accepted through the lottery process, they are placed on a waitlist. That waitlist carries over until they receive an offer or the waitlist reaches a lottery grade, which would be 6th and 9th grades. Students on the waitlist will automatically be placed in the 6th and 9th grade lottery. A new application DOES NOT need to be submitted. A new lottery will be run and a new waitlist will be generated for these grades.
