A New School Year for the CAST Schools Network!

Schools are my happy place.

That wasn’t necessarily true growing up, because my family moved a lot, and it could be terrifying to be the new kid, year after year.

We’ve just launched a new school year at CAST Schools, and the past two weeks have been joyful, whether it is little exchanges drop off and dismissal, watching teachers quietly checking in on their more withdrawn or playful students, watching them gently ensure they don’t cross the street unsafely, listening to some of our students discuss their plans for science club, and others prepare for an upcoming theater production. I am struck by the reminder that schools are so filled with love.

There are many great places to work, businesses that routinely win awards for best business places, and employers who understand how important it is for their employees to feel valued. But the entire enterprise of education is built on nurturing young people, helping them grow into their best selves.

No school is perfect; we need to continually hold ourselves to the highest standards because parents entrust their children to us every day.

But as we enter a new school year, I am struck by the love and commitment to mentorship that continues to make this profession feel so special.
