AT&T, Tech Bloc provide donations
SAN ANTONIO – A technology-focused high school’s partners are making sure the inaugural class has some bags and supplies for their brand-new school.
The freshman class of the new CAST Tech High School stood in line Thursday to get backpacks donated by AT&T, which the tech-advocacy group Tech Bloc stuffed with supplies. AT&T and Tech Bloc are partners with the new San Antonio Independent School District charter school, which focuses on business and technology education.
Principal Melissa Alcala said the supplies will come in handy.
“Well over half of our students qualify for financial aid and free and reduced lunch. So that really helps meet an economic need for these students,” she said.
The high school, which opened Aug. 14 to its class of 2021, is the first of five schools that H-E-B CEO Charles Butt want to help establish as part of a network of Centers for Applied Science and Technology schools across San Antonio. The next school is supposed to be focused on manufacturing.
